Jasper Begay

TOHATCHI — Services for Jasper Begay, 40, will be 10 a.m., June 30, at Cope Memorial Chapel, Gallup. Burial will be in family land, Tohatchi. Visitation will be 9-10 a.m.

Begay died June 24, 2011, in Gallup. He was born Oct. 10, 1970, in Blackfoot, Idaho, into the Black Streak Wood People Clan for the Toh-bahi People Clan.

Begay was self-employed and did some welding. He loved to play baseball, volleyball and practicing traditional songs (NAC), and was a road man.
Survivors include his wife, Juanita Begay; sons, Cory Begay of Twin Lakes, Tharen J. Begay of Farmington, Kyle McCray, Herman McCray Jr. of Twin Lakes; daughters, Kim Livingston, Kylynn McCray, both of Twin Lakes; brother, William Wes Jackson of Tohatchi; sisters, Lucita Begay of Tohatchi, Selcido Charley of Gallup, Mary D. Begay, Irlene D. Begay, Marlene Begay of Tohatchi.

Begay was preceded in death by his parents, Deswood and Evelyn S.; sisters, Marilyn Begay, Christine Vanhorn; brother, Martinez Charley; grandparents, Guy Shipley, Jeanette Shipley.
Pallbearers will Colbert Sherman, Michael Begay, Ivan Destea, Billy Destea Jr., Robert Lee Jr., Joel Lueppe.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Tohatchi Chapter House, following services.

Eli Joe

PAYSON — Funeral services for Eli Joe, 72, were 10 a.m., today, June 29, at Church of Nazarene, Navajo Station, Ariz. The Rev. Harrison Silversmith Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in Cornfields Community Cemetery.

Joe died June 24, 2011, in Payson. He was born March 1, 1939, in Sunrise Springs.

Joe attended a 5 year program in Shalocho, Okla. He was employed with BNSF railroad for many years, was a carpenter/handyman and always helped at Navajo traditional ceremonies. He enjoyed riding horses, playing Navajo 10 and being with his family and relatives.

Survivors include his brothers, Fred Cleveland of Albuquerque, Hardy Cleveland, Morgan Cleveland, both of Ganado; sisters, Gloria B. Nez of Navajo Nation, Victoria C. Jones of Cornfields, Arlene Davis of Navajo Station, Modesta Cleveland of Ganado.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, John Tsosie, Florence Joe-Cleveland.

Pallbearers will be Hardy Cleveland, Harland Cleveland, Morgan Cleveland Sr., Cecil Silversmith, Melvin Nez, Justin Joe.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Cornfields Chapter House, following services.

Eleanor Judy

SMOKE SIGNAL — Funeral services for Eleanor L. Judy, 93, will be 1 p.m., Thursday, June 30, at Pinon Catholic Church, St. Mary of the Rosary. The Rev. Blane Grein, OFM, will officiate. Burial will be in family cemetery, Smoke Signal, Ariz. Visitation will be one hour prior to service, at 12 p.m.

Judy died June 23, 2011, in Tuba City. She was born March 23, 1919, in Low Mountain, into the Zuni Red Running Into the Water People Clan for the Towering House People Clan.

Judy was a well known weaver to Sedona rug galleries. She expressed her artistic personality through weaving and creating plastic canvas crafts. She was an active member of the Senior Center program of the Chinle Agency. Judy was a loving grandmother who made rugs for grandchildren who graduated from school. She won 1st place in wool spinning and fry bread making at previous Navajo Nation fairs.

Survivors include her son, Michael Judy; daughters, Clara Judy, Berdina Tom, Beulah Judy, Sara Castillo; many grandchildren.
Judy was preceded in death by Gibson Judy, Eddie Judy, Esther Tsosie, Ned Castillo Jr., Jason Judy.

Pallbearers will be JayCee Judy, Larry Blackmountain, Jakeson J. Bahe, Vyronn J. Bahe, Daryl Yazzie, Guy Tsosie Jr.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Bahe residence, Smoke Signal, following services.

GALLUP — Services are pending for Thomas Pete Ortiz, 84.

Ortiz died Tuesday, June 28, 2011, in Gallup. He was born Jan. 4, 1927, in Gallup.

Mark Pavlich

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. — Services for Mark Steven Pavlich, 20, will be 10 a.m., Friday, July 1, at St. John Catholic Church. The Rev. Festus Maliwa will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, by Neekamp-Luginbuel Funeral Home. Visitation will be 9 a.m.-9 p.m., today, June 29, and 9 a.m.-2 p.m., Thursday, June 30, at the Neekamp-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Bartlesville. A rosary will be recited 7 p.m., Thursday, June 30, at St. John Catholic Church.

Pavlich died Saturday, June 25, 2011, in Bartlesville. He was born July 20, 1990, in Grand Junction, Colo.

Pavlich received his diploma from Yorktown, Va., at the age of 16 and attended Rogers State University for a short while. At the age of three, the family moved from Colorado to Gallup. When he was 12, the family moved to Virginia before settling in Bartlesville in 2008. He had just completed the EMT training program and was looking forward to becoming a paramedic. He always enjoyed doing things with his three brothers. Pavlich had many goals in life, one of those was obtaining a college degree. He was interested in anything having to do with science. Pavlich was a member of St. John Catholic Church, Bartlesville. He enjoyed his pets and many friends and acquaintances referred to him as having a “good heart”.

Survivors include his parents, David and Patty Pavlich of Bartlesville; brothers, John Pavlich, Paul Pavlich, both of Bartlesville, Matthew Pavlich of Edmond Okla.; grandparents, Dave and Millie Pavlich of Montrose, Colo., Flora Sturgeon of Olathe, Colo.

Pavlich was preceded in death by his grandfather, Gene Sturgeon.

Jimmy Pino

PINE HILL — Services for Jimmy Tennyson Pino, 90, will be 10 a.m., Thursday, June 30, at Ramah Church of the Nazarene, Ramah. Burial will be in family plot with full military honors.

Pino died June 27, 2011, in Albuquerque. He was born May 8, 1921, into the Towering House People Clan for the Red Bottom People Clan.

Pino worked at the Union Pacific Railroad, was a rancher and was part of the 935th Bombardier Squadron in the U.S. Army. He was involved in chapter government by attending many chapter meetings, actively involved in Ramah Veteran Association.

Survivors include his son, Stewart Wood of Pine Hill; daughters, Della Ellsworth of Ramah, Nettie Lee of Shiprock, Jeanette Pino of Ramah, Genevieve Pino of Vanderwagen, Roberta Pino of Pine Hill, Kayleen Pino of Albuquerque; sister, Maggie T. Martine; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

Pino was preceded in death by his wife, Katie N. Pino; sons, Austin Pino, Emerson Pino; three grandchildren.
